Sculpting a detail of whale

added more bumps around its mouse and make the skin more rough.

The whale becomes more an plausible sea creature more than a toy whale figure.

Making Detail

Make basic shape with Maya  -->  extract "faces" to objects  --> export objects as .obj

 --> edit with Mudbox --> export  objects as .obj --> import into Maya

Stencil is really useful to create relieves on the surface of a 3D model.

I tried to sculpt Greek relief on the surface of the cube. In regular 3D modeling technique this type of modeling takes long time especially only with Maya but it this case (Mudbox with stencil) took only 5 minute to sculpt the surface.


Experimenting the "imprint" tool with a image stump.

3D scanner Practice





Learned how to use 3D scanner


3D Scanner is not good at scan hairy object.

3D Scanner can not scan black object.

Scanning quality is deeply affected by background of the scanning object.

Advanced integrations of 3D technologies into art creation.


Purpose


The goal of this project is to create virtual/physical sculptures that were produced with digital 3D technologies. The importance of the digital fabrications in contemporary art is increasing due to their infinite possibilities and an artistic exploration of “something new” form of art. Also improving availabilities of those technologies accelerating developments and sophistication of this new field very rapidly. This project will be very experimental since the project will explore a totally new genre of sculpture creation.
